Atop a Global Empire: 3 Golden Keys to Getting and Staying There
Many of you know that I’m a follower and fan of Rick Goings, the CEO of Tupperware Brands, and in interest of full disclosure, a happy shareholder. (Tupperware is publicly traded. My disclosure of interest is not meant as investment advice.)

I recently received and studied the Annual Report, and have facts and observations.

Overall, I credit Rick the Renegade Millionaire title, because in an era of everybody looking for easy-buttons, everybody overly fascinated with social media (which he calls “anti-social media”), and selling often seeming a lost, forgotten and disdained activity, he remains firmly committed to person-to-person direct selling and in-field, in-person training and coaching. In fact, he is a very hands-on CEO, traveling the globe, putting on his own training events for the troops.

In 2013, a home party or group selling event for one of the Tupperware Brands companies occurred every 1.3 seconds, more than 24-million times. In foreign markets, with explosive middle class growth (such as Asia and Latin America), sales rose by 13%, accounting for 65% of company revenue. U.S. and Canada under-performed – thanks, I’d say, to poor work ethic, and economic factors. Other territories provided single digit percentage growth. In his Annual Report Letter, Rick described TPB as “an AND story.” They are Tupperware AND seven other direct-selling brands/companies; they are focused on best geo-areas of opportunity AND on fixing under-performing areas; they are active in product innovation AND their best (and in my opinion, more valuable) core competencies: recruiting, training and motivating; their attraction and retention of sales agents is based on providing income opportunity AND (again, in my opinion, more importantly) an inspirational environment, providing recognition, personal development and literal life transformation. This last is important, and every info-marketer should take special note: he recognizes that the business opportunity and the “how to do it” training is nowhere near enough for success – the 3rd leg is equally or more important: the mindset of the people involved, and their personal growth. He is able to captain a complex, multi-billion dollar corporation AND maintain direct relationship with 1,900 distributors, 93,600 team leaders and 2.9-million agents. He has kept the companies stubbornly grounded with proven fundamentals AND stuck to teaching a proven doable-by-anybody, replicatable selling AND small business system.

In short, Renegade Millionaires are able (and willing) to: KEY #1: do more than one thing SIMULTANEOUSLY, KEY #2: steer very COMPLICATED business systems and processes, and KEY #3: personally WORK, on AND in the business. My most successful Private Clients and Titanium Members absolutely share all three of these behaviors. People who struggle and wonder why they can’t get the kind of results they desire and see others ‘on Planet Dan’ getting tend to flit from one thing to another, one new bright, shiny idea at a time…tend to seek escape from complexity…and tend to seek escape from work.
